Pastel Spring Wild Flower Wedding at Persie House in Perthshire

February 27, 2020

Early May weddings are great for using delicate Spring flowers like tulips, ranunculus, delicate poppies and orlaya. If you’re really lucky the Dutch wholesalers might have started stocking peonies too, a beautiful blousy large headed flower and a favourite of brides everywhere. If you love peonies but aren’t getting married in peony season have a look at our peony alternatives blog post.

Sarah and Jamie’s elegant pastel May wedding at Persie House near Blairgowrie was filled with delicate seasonal wild flowers in beautiful greens, soft pastels and a few pops of brighter pink. These pastel tones really added to the romantic spring feel of the designs and added soft touches of colour to the chapel and marquee.

Sarah’s bouquet was a loose, hand tied posy with seasonal spring wild flowers such as pale pink peonies, poppies, orlaya and early sweet peas that smelled gorgeous and looked beautiful against the silvery greens of the foliage. We added beautiful hand dyed heirloom silk ribbon in a soft creamy pink which moved nicely in the wind for her outdoor photos.

For her flower girls we created sweet little flower crowns and matching wild flower style posies for her bridesmaids that matched in with Sarah’s bridal bouquet and the other wedding flowers. The delicate aquilegia, astilbe and orlaya in the bouquets really accented the lace detailing of Sarah’s stunning wedding dress.

I used lots of Scottish grown flowers for these designs to bring a soft, seasonal and romantic feel to the wedding flowers and included flowers known for their scent such as sweat peas, stocks and genista (broom). For Sarah and Jamie’s ceremony at Ballintuim I added a soft pastel flower and foliage garland above the church entrance which acted like a mini arch for the couple and guests arriving. Inside the church we placed two large urn arrangements at the front filled with blossom, tulips, roses and azalea and lined the windows with jugs of fresh spring flowers. This helped soften the look of the wooden interiors and added a pop of colour to the space. The wedding party then took the urns and jugs of flowers back to the marquee at Persie House.

For the reception, which was held in the marquee at Persie House, we decorated behind the top table with rustic flower hoops woven from dogwood and honeysuckle and decorated with spring flowers. This delicate airy touch was in keeping with the other florals and created a great backdrop for photos of the top table. It also brought a touch of colour to the space, which in a marquee is important. We filled elegant glass bottles and jars which the couple and their family had collected with pastel spring flowers for the centre of the guest tables. This was enough to add a touch of colour to the space without dominating or blocking the view of guests at the table.
